Is marble marble?

The scientific name of marble is marble. Originally refers to the white limestone with black patterns produced in Dali, Yunnan. The profile can form a natural ink landscape painting. In ancient times, marble with molding patterns was often used to make painting screens or mosaics. Later, the name marble gradually became the general name of all kinds of limestone with various color patterns, which was used as building decoration materials. White marble is generally called white marble, but the translation of western statues is also called marble.

Marble is widely used because of its excellent compression resistance, high hardness and corrosion resistance. Currently, it is mainly used in construction, building materials, metallurgy and other industries. Marble patterns are naturally formed. It can be said that almost every marble is unique and unique, so marble is widely used in architectural decoration, such as floor tiles used in our lives, comfortable floating windowsills in the afternoon, TV background walls and so on. Traces of marble can be seen almost everywhere. Marble is not only used for decoration, but also a raw material for producing high-quality building aggregate.

According to the two main uses of marble: decorative materials and building aggregates, the production technology is also divided into two types. One is the molding and cutting process, and the other is the grinding and sand making process. When making decorative materials, the whole processing of marble is completed through molding, cutting and other processes. For building aggregate, its production process is similar to the crushing and sand-making process of pebbles and other materials, specifically: feeding by a feeder, coarse crushing by a jaw crusher, fine crushing by a conveyor, reverse crushing or cone crushing, screening by a vibrating screen, and sand-making by a sand-making machine.

mineral composition

Marble is formed by regional metamorphism and contact metamorphism of carbonate rocks such as limestone, dolomite and dolomite. The content of calcite and dolomite is generally above 50%, and some can reach 99%. But in general marble, besides a few pure marbles, there are often a few other metamorphic minerals. Because the original rock contains different kinds of impurities (such as silica, argillaceous, carbonaceous, iron, pyroclastic substances, etc. ), as well as the temperature, pressure and water solution content of metamorphism, the types of associated minerals in marble are also different.

Structural construction

Marble generally has a typical granular crystal structure, the particle size is generally medium, fine and sometimes coarse, and calcite and dolomite particles in the rock form a dense mosaic structure. Marble formed by metamorphism in some areas has strong light transmittance due to the directional arrangement of calcite optical axis. For example, some marbles have a light transmittance of 2 cm, and some marbles have a light transmittance of 3 ~ 4 cm. They are excellent carving materials. The structure of marble is mostly blocky, and many marbles have stripes, stripes, patches or spots of different sizes, which become decorative building materials with different colors and patterns after processing.

Color feature

Besides pure white, some marbles have various beautiful colors and patterns. Common colors are light gray, light red, light yellow, green, brown, black and so on. The main reason for the different colors and patterns is that marble contains a small amount of colored minerals and impurities. For example, marble composed of manganese calcite is pink, and marble contains gray graphite, yellow-green serpentine, green chlorite, actinolite and diopside.
