The second digit represents gender: 1 male, 2 female.
For example, the male ID number in Taipei should start with A 1
The third to ninth digits are arbitrary digit strings.
The tenth place is the verification code.
The calculation rule of the tenth digit-verification code is:
The letter (ABCDEFGHJKLMNPQRSTUVXYWZIO) corresponds to a set of numbers (10-35).
Let its ten digits be X 1 and its single digits be x2;
D2 to D9 represent the second to ninth digits of the ID number, respectively.
y = x 1+9×X2+8×D2+7×D3+6×D4+5×D5+4×D6+3×D7+2×D8+ 1×D9
Divide the value of y by 10. The remainder result obtained.
Then subtract this remainder result with 10. You get the last number on your ID card.
For example, R 123456783, R=25,
The checking formula is: 2+5 * 9+1* 8+2 * 7+3 * 6+4 * 5+4+6 * 3+7 * 2+8 *1=167.
Its 167 is divided by 10 to get the remainder result.
The single digit of the remainder result is 7. Subtract 10 to get 3 (check code).
Here is a male ID number U 154482387 in Hualien County, Taiwan.
Check with the formula I gave above to see if the last ID number is 7.
