Chizhou College was founded in 1977, and started as a professional class in Chizhou area of Anhui University of Labor. 1980 was officially named Chizhou Teachers College, and 1999 merged with the former Chizhou Technical School. In 2002, the former Anhui Economic and Trade School merged. Approved by the Ministry of Education in 2007, it was upgraded to a provincial full-time undergraduate college.

The school now covers an area of 1959 mu, with a school building area of 365,000 square meters. The total value of teaching and research instruments and equipment is 80,948,700 yuan, more than 800,000 paper books, more than 750,000 electronic books and nearly 2,000 Chinese and foreign paper periodicals.
