Paper types commonly used in origami:
1, plain A4 paper
Ordinary A4 paper (mainly refers to the paper made of this material, not necessarily A4 size) is generally about 70g to 80g, which is relatively thick and has poor toughness. It cannot be folded too complicated, and it is easy to break the paper many times during the folding process. This kind of paper can be bought in general stationery stores.
2, hand rub paper:
Generally, you buy a size of 64cm, usually 58 g. Compared with A4, it has much better toughness and can basically meet the needs of various types of origami. The biggest advantage of hand kneading is that it has many colors and is cheap, but its plasticity is poor and it is not easy to set. You can buy it at a flower shop.
3. Kraft paper:
Generally, it is fully open, with different thicknesses. Generally speaking, less than 40g is more suitable. There are two kinds, brown cowhide and white cowhide. Cowhide is characterized by good toughness and plasticity, but its color is monotonous, waterproof and easy to get wet by water. Moreover, because the cowhide is thicker than the paper below, the work used to fold the snake belly may become very thick and difficult to shape. You can buy it at the stationery store.
4. Waxed paper:
This kind of paper is very suitable for folding insects or miniature works. This kind of paper looks like plastic film, not like paper. The disadvantage is that it is difficult to grasp. Because the paper surface is smooth, it will feel a little slippery when folded, and it will leave a very obvious crease when folded. In addition, waxed paper is often used to make composite paper with other papers (only two pieces of paper are glued together to make two-color paper).
5, oiled paper:
A paper that feels comfortable to fold and is thin enough. It itself is used to make food wrapping paper, but it is very suitable for origami. Although there are not as many colors as hands, they are enough.
6, tin foil:
This is actually the kind used for barbecue, which is usually used with other things. Because of the metal characteristics of tin foil, the setting effect of this composite paper is very good when folded, but it is not enough because it is composite and thick.
7. Handmade paper:
There are mainly two kinds, both of which are two-color paper with one side colored and one side white. Very suitable for folding small works of two colors or practicing hands.
