Ningbo, referred to as "Ningbo" for short, is a prefecture-level city, a sub-provincial city, a city under separate state planning, a Class I metropolis [170] approved by the State Council, an important city in Shanghai metropolitan area, an important port city in the southeast coast of China and an economic center in the south wing of the Yangtze River Delta.

Ningbo is located in the northeast of Zhejiang Province, in the middle of the mainland coastline, with Hangzhou Bay in the north, Zhoushan Islands in the east as a natural barrier, Shaoxing in the west and Taizhou in the south. It is located at120 55'-12216' in east longitude and 28 5 1'-30 33' in north latitude.
Ningbo is a typical water town and seaport city in the south of the Yangtze River with subtropical monsoon climate. It is the southern end of China's Grand Canal and the eastern origin port of the Maritime Silk Road. The annual cargo throughput of Zhoushan Port in Ningbo ranks first in the world, and the container volume ranks among the top three in the world.
It is a multifunctional, comprehensive and modern deep-water port integrating inland river port, estuary port and seaport. In 2022, Zhoushan, Ningbo ranked tenth in the world as an international shipping center city. It is also the first pilot demonstration city of manufacturing in China in 2025.
