Pruning citrus is very important. How to prune young citrus trees?
Pruning citrus is very important. It is easy to manage the early high yield of trees, but difficult to manage the low yield of trees. In fact, the pruning of young citrus trees is not very difficult, but it is a complicated job for novices who have just come into contact with this industry. Let's share with you how to prune young citrus trees.

1. It is appropriate to cultivate the main branches of young trunk citrus trees with a length of 20-30cm. When young trees sprout summer buds, cut branches 30-40 cm long from the ground to promote them to sprout new branches. When 3-5 summer buds germinate, branches can be cored to germinate autumn buds, which are secondary branches. Generally, only 3-5 autumn shoots can be collected in most producing areas in Central South or North China, while autumn shoots in late summer in South China and autumn shoots in Central South or North China are the main branches of citrus in the future.

2. Cultivate the main branch 1, remove the core and cut it short.

After each new shoot in summer or autumn, it will be pulled out in time, and cut short in winter, leaving only about 10 leaves. After cutting short, most branches will appear double branches, and the redundant branches will become weak branches. If you don't pick the core and cut it short in time, it will make the backbone branches long and soft, and the fruit will easily break or overlap after it bears. In this way, after 2-3 years of cultivation, the secondary main branch of 12-20 will be formed. If the last autumn shoot is not picked or chopped one year before fruiting, it can be taken back after fruiting.

Step 2 pull the branches

Before the spring shoots germinate but are not mature, the branches of young trees can be pulled apart, so that the angle of main branches is about 50-60 degrees, which can form a larger crown and lay the foundation for high yield.

Step 3 nip the bud

After pruning, the spring shoots in the upper part of the crown will pull out the summer shoots, forming a crown with strong upper part and weak lower part. Therefore, the sprouted summer shoots should be smoothed first, and a layer should be applied every 3-4 days. After continuous bud smearing, when the lower spring shoots are about to sprout summer shoots and branch, the top shoots are smeared and then branched, so that a relatively balanced main branch can be formed.

Step 4 cut down on tips

Citrus fruit trees are prone to top branches, so they need to be thinned in time. In general, thinning is to leave strong and weak straight branches and open branches, so that the branches are inclined, the crown is open and the distribution is moderate, which is beneficial to fruit and crown cultivation.
