In the autumn of 1950, the NBA was just four years old, but it began to decline. Podoloff, the first president of the NBA, and Walter Brown, the president of the Boston Celtics, agreed to select the best teams from the Eastern and Western Conferences (the NBA only had 11 teams from these two conferences at the time) halfway through the season. Players compete in a scrimmage match. On March 2, 1951, Brown, the president of the Boston Celtics, provided the Boston Garden Arena for free to host the first All-Star Game. The game attracted 10,094 fans, and from then on, the foundation for the All-Star Game was laid.

After evolution, the contemporary All-Star Game has developed into the "All-Star Weekend", which lasts for three days, including the "All-Star Party", "Rookie All-Star Game", "Slam Dunk Contest", " Three-Point Shooting Contest" and "All-Star Game." The most exciting ones are the "Slam Dunk Contest" and the "All-Star Game". In the first Slam Dunk Contest in 1984, Larry Nance of the Phoenix Suns held a ball in each hand, took off and smashed the two balls into the basket, which was called "Thunderbolt Windmill". In 1991, Dee Brown of the Celtics blindfolded his right arm and successfully jumped and dunked with the ball in his left hand. This move was called the "death bat". Ceballos also relied on this move to win the championship in 1992. Jordan of the Bulls took off from the free throw line and flew to the basket in 1987, earning the nickname "Flying Man". In addition, there will be various competitions and performances held for fans and reporters during "All-Star Weekend", including the "Million Dollar Shooting Contest."
