China Academy of Engineering Physics (hereinafter referred to as "China Academy of Engineering Physics", formerly known as "Ninth Academy") is a national research institute at the vice ministerial level, a nuclear weapon research and production unit, and a comprehensive research institute integrating theory, experiment, design and production, focusing on the frontier development of national defense science and technology.
The main body of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is located in Mianyang Science City, Sichuan, with scientific research branches or offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu and Shenzhen. China Academy of Sciences 1958 was established as the ninth research institute of Beijing, 1964 was renamed as the ninth research and design institute of the Second Machinery Department, 1968 was awarded the rank of the ninth research institute of China People's Liberation Army, 1973 used the name of the ninth research institute of the Second Machinery Department, and 1973 was renamed as the ninth research institute of the Ministry of Nuclear Industry.
