Summer pruning should be done once a month, usually 5 times, from falling flowers to falling leaves. Applying a small amount several times is more labor-saving than a large amount and a few times, and is more conducive to the growth and fruiting of peach trees.
Summer pruning has a greater inhibitory effect on tree growth, so the amount of pruning should be light. The amount of pruning in each summer should not exceed 5% of the total number of branches and leaves of the tree.
The main pruning methods in summer can be summarized in six words: "remove umbrellas, open windows, and density".
Umbrella removal: thin out the fruiting branches and upright leggy tips in the upper part of the tree or on the trunk branches that seriously affect the light.
Open windows: thin out the overly dense fruiting branches on the backbone branches.
Thinning: Thinning out overly dense new shoots.
