The Norwich Terrier was recognized by the British Dog Owners Association in 1932, but the Norfolk Terrier was not recognized as an independent breed until 1964. These two breeds are working dogs bred in East Angles Farm in England. They are similar in type, size, color, coat and ear shape, but there are also differences. Norfolk terrier is small, strong, alert and bold. Have a natural instinct to hunt stalks and a gentle temper. Norfolk terrier has the ability to adapt to different environments because of its good temper and strong social adaptability.
In Britain at the turn of the century, Frank, the horse trainer, looked after horses with Norfolk terriers in the stables of Hanover Market in Cambridge and Norwich. Jones bred a breed, which was recognized by the British kennel club at 1932 and named Norwich Terrier. In the early days of the past, these stalks had great changes in style, size, color, coat and ear posture. Proper coat color and ear posture are often debated. When the draft standard of dog breeds in Norwich was drawn up, the earlobe and earlobe belonged to the same breed, but in 1964, the British Kennel Club considered them to be two breeds, namely, the earlobe Norfolk Terrier and the earlobe Norwich Terrier.
In the year when the British kennel club divided breeds, an article in this field said, "In fact, Norfolk terrier is nothing new, just a name. That name was used when registering. These stalks cultivated in eastern countries are mainly grayish yellow, red and other colors such as black, brown and grayish white. Their ribs are well developed and their legs are short, which comes from a recognized hunting terrier. They are famous rat catchers. "
In the United States, those who can recall the "noisy 20th century" are still called Jones Terriers when talking about Norwich Terriers after the death of Lorina Jones. Many Americans bought their first red beagle from Jones when they went abroad. 1936 With the efforts of Gordon Mazoy (who registered the first Norwich terrier in the United States) and henry bean Bi, then vice chairman of AKC Association, the Norwich terrier was recognized as a variety by AKC. It was not until 1979 that Norwich terriers were officially divided by ear posture, and they have always been a variety. At present, it is considered to be Norfolk terrier, Norwich terrier or standing ear.
There are obvious differences between the two varieties with naked eyes, which leads to slightly different standards between the two varieties. These two varieties have been successfully cultivated since they were separated.
Today, although many Norfolk terriers live in cities and villages where foxes are hunted, they should abide by the standards. Feature coats need to be modified frequently, but pruning should be severely punished. The ears should droop neatly, close to the cheeks, and the tips of the ears should be slightly round, but the ears should not be lower than the outer edge of the corners of the eyes.
Norfolk terriers are hunting terriers, not pet dogs. Its main characteristics are tenacity, courage, loyalty to its master and great charm. It is emotional and quite obedient. Norfolk terriers must be kept small in size to meet specific breed standards. Most importantly, never sacrifice its outstanding personality and variety features for appearance and modeling.
