Pruning and shaping of Populus tomentosa
Populus tomentosa has strong germination ability and is easy to form too dense opposite branches. Measures such as germination and pruning should be taken in time to promote trunk growth. You can also take the method of cutting branches and raising stems, so that the ratio of stem to branch tip can be kept at about 1∶2.

Wipe your head to form a neat trunk, reduce transpiration and improve the survival rate. Trees used as street trees have a fixed trunk of 2.5 to 3 meters, and the tree shape is naturally gratifying. After the stem is fixed, when the new bud grows to 30 cm, 3 ~ 5 robust branches are selected at the top of the stem as the main branch culture, and the selected branches should be evenly distributed with open angles, and the rest should be drained. After the leaves fall in autumn, cut the main branches short, leaving the outer buds. In the early summer of the following year, the newly grown side branches on each main branch were pruned, and then the side branches were cut short at the end of autumn to keep the outer buds. With this pruning, the basic tree shape can be determined in three or four years.
