Taishan jade was produced at the foot of Mount Tai and formed in Xidian subunit of Nanlaopo superunit in Fuping period of Archean, about 2.536 billion years ago.

In the closing ceremony mentioned above, there is a link called' burning jade'. "Burned jade, jade of ancient gods. When the sacrifice is over, the smoke will rise when it is burned. " Hetian jade produced in Xinjiang at that time could not reach the Central Plains because of its long distance and limited manpower.

Shan Hai Jing, an important ancient book in the pre-Qin period, records: "Mount Tai is rich in jade, and the middle of the river flows, among which there are many jade". Thus, taishan jade is also defined as a royal jade species.
