Jewellery Institute was established in September 1995, and it is one of the earliest institutions of higher learning in China to carry out gemology education and offer gemology specialty. Since 1988, the school has trained more than 3,000 undergraduate and junior college students in gemology and art design, and more than 300 doctoral and master students, which has delivered a large number of senior and specialized talents for the jewelry industry.

The college has doctoral programs: gemology; Two master's programs: gemmology and design art; Two undergraduate majors: Gems and Materials Technology and Art Design. There are 462 undergraduates in 20 12 years, including 65438 master students and 047 doctoral students. The college has a strong faculty, with 23 full-time teachers, including 3 professors, 8 associate professors and 0/2 lecturers. 12 people have doctoral degrees; Six teachers have the qualification certificate of "National Registered Jewelry and Jade Quality Inspector", and many teachers have the British FGA Gem Appraisal Certificate or the Belgian HRD Diamond Grader Certificate.

The existing experimental teaching center of jewelry and mineral materials is Beijing Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, which won the title of "China Geo University (Beijing) Innovative Practice Base for College Students" in 20 12. The experimental teaching center consists of 9 parts: gem identification, diamond grading, gem processing, jade carving, jewelry making, jewelry carving wax, jewelry polishing, computer room and gem research room. Equipped with advanced modern testing instruments and equipment and supporting experimental instruments and equipment for jewelry identification, grading, design, processing, carving, etc., there are more than 500 sets, and there are more than 8000 pieces of jewelry and jade specimens 170. In addition, there are skylight studios, design classrooms, exhibition rooms and art galleries, which are the first-class experimental teaching centers in China. The college has also established an internship base in cooperation with dozens of jewelry testing institutions and jewelry companies, which has built a good platform for students to carry out social practice.

Relying on the development advantages of "2 1 1 engineering" key disciplines of mineralogy, petrology and mineral deposit science, the college undertakes projects such as national natural/social science fund, national basic platform and provincial and ministerial level in the fields of gem identification, gem improvement, gem synthesis, gem material design and processing, gem mineral deposit science and art design. In 20 12, there were 35 scientific research projects, and the annual scientific research funding exceeded 4 million yuan; Teachers and students published 20 academic papers, including international SCI5, international EI2, 7 domestic core journals and 6 other journals. Teachers attended academic conferences at home and abroad for nearly 10 times and made special reports 1 time. The national social science fund art special fund project approved by the teachers majoring in art design in the college is Jewelry College, which is also the first time that this kind of project has been approved by the school.

College students' extracurricular scientific and technological innovation activities and campus cultural activities are extremely active. The 9th Jewelry Culture Festival, the 3rd Dormitory Culture Festival, the 4th Diamond Grading Competition and the 5th Expert Appraisal Competition were held on 20 12. Two students won the second prize of national english contest for college students; 1 the student won the third prize of national college students' mathematical modeling; Two students won the third prize in the national English vocabulary competition; Eight students were awarded outstanding graduates in Beijing; 1009 102 1 class won the excellent class collective, the top ten class collective and the excellent student dormitory.

The Institute and the internationally renowned jeweler training institution-British Gemmology Association jointly set up the FGA training course, and the fourth phase was held on 20 12. The third student, Tao, won the "Best Theoretical Paper Award in the World", which is the second time that a student from Jewelry College has won this award.
