He was born in a slum in odense, the Danish island of Fiying. He has no formal education, and his life mainly depends on the manuscript fee. Andersen is famous for his fairy tales, the most famous of which are Snow Queen, Thumbelina, Little Match Girl and Ugly Duckling. His works have been translated into 150 languages, and thousands of fairy tale books have been published all over the world.
