Whether it is the raw material or the finished product of jadeite, as long as we carefully observe the polished surface, we can see the mottled crystal staggered structure, like mottled. In other words, two kinds of jadeite crystals with different shapes and arrangements can be seen on a piece of jadeite. One is granular (phenocrysts) with slightly larger particles, and the other is fibrous small crystals wound around phenocrysts. The phenocrysts of the same jadeite are usually the same size. Spotted crystals are slightly pointed at both ends, like eyeballs. The long axis of porphyritic crystals is consistent with the elongation direction of fibrous small crystals, and there are obvious signs of directional arrangement.
There are small white fibrous crystals in jadeite with poor transparency, which are intertwined with stone flowers. The difference between this kind of stone flower and phenocryst is that phenocryst is transparent, while stone flower is slightly transparent to opaque.
The color of jadeite is uneven, and there are different shades of green or black on the white, lotus root powder, oil blue and bean green foundation, and even on the green foundation.
Emerald has bright luster, good polishing degree and glass or pearl luster. In addition to the above points, jadeite differs from serpentine jade, grape stone jade and quartzite jade in its high density and high refractive index. Emerald drops rapidly in tribromomethane, while nephrite, serpentine jade and seasonal jade all float on it or on it. The refractive index of jadeite measured by point method is about 1.66, while other jadeites of the same kind are lower than 1.66.
Using X-ray powder crystal analysis data, its authenticity can be quickly and accurately identified. The strongest X-ray diffraction data of jadeite jade are: 2.919 (7)-2.835 (10)-2.533 (4)-2.495 (3)-2.416 (3)1.
If the sample is difficult, if possible, the main mineral of jadeite-jadeite composition can be determined by electron probe analysis, which is nondestructive and reliable.
