How to identify the authenticity and purity of gold and silver jewelry
1, four steps to easily identify the authenticity of gold
Step 1: Observe the color of gold. As the old saying goes, "seven greens, eight yellows, and nine five reds", high-purity gold is moist and shiny enough, while mixed gold has rough spots. Moreover, "real gold is not afraid of fire." Gold will not fade, melt or change color at high temperature, but it will remain the same after cooling.
Step 2: Weigh it by hand and judge whether it is commensurate with its size. For example, large-sized gold is likely to be adulterated if it feels light.
Step 3: Press the gold ornaments by hand. Soft is HD gold, soft is HD gold or mixed gold. Small gold ornaments can be Bai Wan, with clear color, soft texture and wrinkles at the folds; Low color hard gold is fragile and easy to break; Mixed gold is also elastic.
Step 4: collide two gold ornaments, and the one with good quality will make a sound; Poor quality tinkling; Mixed gold jingled.
2. Three steps to easily identify the authenticity of silver
Step 1: The higher the purity of silver, the whiter the color, and the surface looks even, shiny and moist. If it contains lead, it will appear bluish gray; If it contains copper, it will be moist and rough. Most of the yellow, color difference or dull colors are fake silver ornaments.
Step 2: As the old saying goes, "Aluminum is light, silver is heavy, and copper is neither light nor heavy." The hardness of silver is lower than that of copper but higher than that of lead and tin. Spying with a pin will not leave traces of silver, while other metal ornaments will leave obvious traces. Silver bends easily and does not break easily. Everything that can't stand bending is fake.
Step 3: The worse the fineness of silver, the lower the sound. If it contains copper, the sound is high and sharp; If it contains lead, tin, etc. The voice is dull and short.
3. How to judge the purity of gold?
K gold is divided into gold, red gold, platinum and colored gold. According to its content, it is divided into 22K, 18K, 14K, etc. , and must be marked by the manufacturer.
Gold content of gold =X÷24, where x is the number before "k", for example, gold content of 22K gold =22÷24=9 1.7%.
1) Look at the color:
Containing 70% gold, the jewelry is yellow and blue; It contains 80% gold and the jewelry is yellow. 90% gold, jewelry yellow and purple; Contains 100% gold, and the ornaments are red. Pure gold is soft and generally not used as inlaid ornaments, so it must be fake to see the inlaid ornaments with 24K written on them.
2) Weighing:
The specific gravity of gold is19.3g/cm3. When the specific gravity approaches 19.3, the purity of gold will be higher; When the specific gravity approaches 18.5, the purity is about 95%; When the specific gravity is close to 17.8, the purity is about 90%, and so on. At present, many gold ornaments sold in the market are sub-gold products, that is, alloy materials made of copper, aluminum, nickel and other metals, which have the characteristics of high hardness, wear resistance and no discoloration.
3) touchstone:
Prepare a black touchstone with delicate texture, carve it on the touchstone with several standard gold test pieces with different gold contents, and then carve the gold to be identified on the same touchstone. Then drop concentrated nitric acid on this touchstone to remove impurities, find out the traces left by dicing just now, and observe that the traces left by gold are consistent with those left by which gold test piece. If there is consistency, the purity of gold is the purity of that gold test piece. If there is any inconsistency, the purity of gold must be wrong.
4. How to judge the purity of silver?
Observe the color of silver jewelry stubble. If the stubble is silky white and the surface color is dark and bright after oxidation, it can be concluded that its color is about 98%. If the stubble is slightly red, the color is about 95%;
If the stubble is white, gray and reddish, the color is about 90%;
If it is hard when bent by hand, and the stubble is reddish or light gray, the color is about 80%;
If the surface is dry and the stubble is red and yellow, the color is about 70%;
If the stubble is red, medium and black or yellow, the color is below 60%.
