About Boogie Down production:
Boogie down productions(bdp), composed of knowledgeable and provocative singers krs-one and dj scott la rock, is one of many influential hiphop groups in 1980s. As a pioneer of hardcore and political rap, scott la rock usually uses simple rhythm and emphasizes krs-one's lyrics with a little background music. Their fame comes from their early realistic descriptions of block life. After Scott's assassination, krs-one paid more attention to society and politics and got the nickname "teacher". In the early 1990s, he released a record in his own name, which also meant quitting bdp. Up to now, krs-one is still a hiphop singer who can speak frankly, deserves respect and is full of wisdom.
Krs-one's real name is Lawrence Krishna Parker, or Chris Parker for short; ; Born on August 20th, 1965, Park Slope, Brooklyn, new york. His biological father was sent back to Trinidad because of his identity when he was born. So he took his stepfather's surname "Parker". /kloc-When he was 0/4 years old, Parker left school and lived in a homeless shelter in the Bronx. He continued to learn a lot in the public library. During this period, he became interested in hiphop culture and wrote some songs under the name of krs-one.
(krs-one is the first letter of every word in' knowledge right is higher than almost everyone').
I met Scott Sterling, a social worker at the shelter. Scott is a dj, and his stage name is Scott La Locke. The two soon became friends.
1984 in the summer, krs-one and others formed a rap group named "the trio of Scotra Rock and Celebrities", whose members included Scotra Rock, levi 167, mc quality and krs-one. They recorded "Forward". At that time, many lyrics reflected cars, jewels and dances, while krs one wrote lyrics against nuclear war. Because the members of the team had some legal problems, the team terminated their contracts. Although dissolved, krs-one continued to create, and soon formed a new group with scott la rock and boogie down crew. Later, around 1985, they thought they wanted to make records entirely by themselves, so they changed the name of the group to boogie down productions.
Bdp's first single was "crack attack" in 1986. Soon after, they finished the whole album "criminal minded" in Baboy Records. 1987 was enthusiastically sought after by fans as soon as it was released, and it was also an early classic album of hardcore rap. Krs-one's detailed description of street life-drugs, violence, promiscuity between men and women, and the struggle between hiphop singers, although not revealing all the problems, expresses a kind of resistance, suggesting that young blacks are entitled to use any necessary means to overcome age prejudice and racial discrimination.
The success of this record in the street attracted the attention of jive Company and signed a record contract with the duo. Unfortunately, at the end of 1987, Scott La Locke became the victim of an unknown assassin in the Bronx.
The death of his best friend brought a big blow to krs-one, but after he regained his spirit, he decided to continue bdp to commemorate the dead la rock. He hired his brother Kenny Parker as a dj, and also called d-nice and Ms. melodie (Ms. melodie was the wife of krs-one).
Thanks to jive's strong support, krs-one completed the album "By hook or by crook" on 1988. The exposition of society and violence in the album makes it a milestone in the history of rap. In the same year, a young fan was killed in a joint concert between bdp and public enemy. Because of this, krs-one founded the "Stop Violence Campaign", organized many stars to record the public service song "Self-destruction" on 1989, and donated this 500,000 US dollars as a charitable donation to the National Urban Alliance.
From 65438 to 0989, bdp produced a more political album "Slumdog Music: The Blueprint of Hip-hop". At this time, although their members added scottie morris and harmony, the sister of ms.melodie, it didn't sound much different. The album covers black crime, police brutality, education and spiritual things. Krs-one made his audience grow and his thoughts got mainstream attention. The New York Times also invited him to write some editorials. At the same time, he also put forward his own views during his lecture tour in many famous universities. Hence the nickname "teacher".
Although bdp has attracted more attention, the album education of 1990 has been criticized by more people, full of excessive preaching and condemnation, thus losing the artistry of music. Krs-one is farther away from the audience because of the argument with the popular rap group p.m.dawn in 1992. At that time, when p.m.dawn mentioned krs-one in an interview with reporters, he commented: "What kind of teacher?" . After that, krs-one and several members of bdp went to p.m.dawn's concert in new york to make trouble and threw the lead singer prince be off the stage. Krs-one later explained that it was because he opposed popular rap like p.m.dawn who talked about the weak through hiphop. However, due to fans' antipathy to krs-one's behavior, he quickly publicly apologized for it.
Meanwhile, bdp is still recording records. 199 1 released live hardcore worldwide, which was also one of the early hiphop live albums. It mainly includes some songs since the first album. At the request of the audience, bdp worked harder to produce their 1992 album "Sex and Violence", but failed to win back the previous audience. At this time, krs-one divorced Ms. melodie, which reduced the cooperation with bdp members such as kenny parker. His next plan is to release his first solo album The Return of boom bap on 1993. Since then, he has released some solo albums, which still often appear in the media and lecture tours.
