Hangzhou originated in Qiantang County, which was established in the Qin Dynasty. In the twenty-fifth year of Zheng (222 BC), after the general Wang Jian of Qin captured Chu, this place was named Qiantang and Yuhang County, which belonged to Huiji County.
The early capital of Yue State may be located in the Yoichi Higashi Belt.
Xinhuanet Zhejiang Channel June 27 th A rare large-scale tomb of Yue State in Zhejiang was recently excavated by archaeologists of the Provincial Institute of Archaeology and unearthed on a hill in Xiamazhai Village, Liushi Town, Dongyang City. The tomb is unique in shape and scale, second only to Yinshan Mausoleum in Shaoxing. Judging from a box of precious jewels in the tomb, the owner of the tomb belongs to the local ruling class.
Together with several surrounding tombs of the same period discovered before, the largest large-scale (stone chamber) mound tomb in Zhejiang Province from Shang and Zhou Dynasties to Spring and Autumn and Warring States Period was rediscovered. How can so many tombs of the same period be concentrated in one place? Archaeologists believe that this at least shows that the Yoichi Higashi Belt must have been an important place of prosperity during the Guyue period. According to relevant historical data, it is not excluded that the early capital of Yue State was located in Yoichi Higashi before Yue King Gou Jian took Shaoxing as an important development base. If this speculation is confirmed, a breakthrough will be made in the study of the origin of Yue State and related cultures.
Different from the popular mound stone tomb at that time, the tomb of Yue State unearthed in Xiamazhai Village was made of large boulders, but its body was made of wood. This special shape and structure was first discovered in mound tombs. Because the tomb was not excavated, archaeologists found thousands of exquisite jade funerary objects in the tomb. These jade articles are well-made, and have not changed color at all because of nearly 3000 years of burial.
