Step 1: Design drawings
Traditionally, designers will draw sketches of new works on paper first, and then finish the design with pencils and gouache. This process ranges from a few days and a half to several months.
A design drawing should be novel, unique, fashionable, exquisite and high-grade atmosphere, and the combination of material technology and bare stone should also be considered. In addition, the embodiment of brand concept and designer style is the success of every excellent designer.
For designers, sometimes even if you draw 100 times on a piece of work, you finally feel a little out of place and have to tear it again.
At the same time, it is necessary to communicate with customers at any time in the design of jewelry customization. After many revisions, a jewelry design can be finally determined.
However, with the progress of science and technology, traditional hand-drawing is gradually replaced by science and technology. Now designers will draw sketches on paper first, and then make detailed drawings through drawing software, which is more efficient, brighter and more realistic.
Step 2: Release the version.
Generally speaking, in the traditional way, craftsmen will carve wax plates by hand according to design drawings. This is the most demanding process in jewelry making. Wax board must be smooth and seamless, the structure of each part is reasonable, and the position and size of inlaid gems are accurate.
But now with the development of science and technology, there are fewer and fewer hand-made jewels. At present, computer CAD software is mostly used to draw pictures, which is more accurate than manual version and reduces the occurrence of wrong values more effectively.
Step 3: Invert the mold.
The old dewaxing casting method was to make wax patterns according to the design. If it is mass-produced, the wax plate will be made into silver plate and pressed into adhesive film, and the wax mold will be mass-produced. If it is custom-made jewelry, each product has only one piece, which will directly enter the mold reversal process.
The following is the process of reversing the mold with the ring as an example.
1. Planting wax trees
Weld each wax ring to a wax rod by hand, and finally get a wax tree that looks like a big tree, ready for casting.
2. Pouring gypsum
Connect the planted wax tree with the chassis, cover it with stainless steel pipe, and slowly inject gypsum slurry with corresponding weight along the inner wall of the steel pipe. Before the wax tree is planted, it is naturally placed for 6- 12 hours after vacuumizing to solidify the gypsum.
Baked gypsum
The function of baking gypsum mold is dewaxing, drying and pouring heat preservation.
cast
Take out the baked gypsum mold and prepare the metal solution to be cast. Inject molten gold water from the nozzle.
5. Frying and cleaning the plaster mould
The casting gypsum mold is in a high temperature state. Take it out of the casting machine, let it stand naturally for 10-30 minutes, and then fry it in cold water. After the gypsum bursts due to shrinkage, take out the golden tree, brush off a large piece of gypsum with a steel brush, soak it in 30% hydrofluoric acid for 10 minute, clamp the remaining gypsum, and rinse it until the surface of the golden tree is clean.
6. Shear casting
Cut the jewels from the golden tree along the bottom of the nozzle.
Step 4: Hold the mold.
All models are made by hand, and the process of pushing back and forth on the surface of jewelry with a special pressing knife requires certain skills and techniques.
polish parts
Step 5: Mix the stones.
According to the jewelry design drawings, diamonds or precious stones are sorted by hand, and appropriate colors, cuts and sizes are selected to prepare for inlaying.
Step 6: Set gems.
This step is a real test for mosaic artists to make by hand. He sets every diamond and gem by hand. If design is a simple theme, then mosaics are naturally easy. If the design style involves complex techniques or a large number of precious stones and diamonds are embedded in jewelry, it will be more difficult and test the proficiency of the inlaid person. Therefore, this step takes different time.
Micro-setting is a technical job, and gems must be set dozens of times under a magnifying glass.
Step 7: Polishing. Electroplating gold.
Further polish the metal surface and details. Some jewelry needs gold plating to make its surface smoother.
Step 8: Quality inspection
The designer also needs to inspect the finished jewelry, and the unqualified jewelry needs to be returned to the previous process before making!
Every excellent piece of jewelry is injected into the soul by designers and manufacturers, and it is the perfect combination of exquisite gemstone raw materials and exquisite craftsmanship.
