1. A symbol of marital status
The nose ring was originally introduced into India from Arab countries. The original intention is that people tie a line through their nostrils to express their absolute "ownership" of animals. Later, its symbolic meaning was fully utilized by Indian men and became a symbol of whether Indian women got married or not. Indian women always punch holes in their noses or wear nose rings to show their loyalty to their husbands after marriage.
2. The significance of different nose ornaments
According to local customs, unmarried girls and married women wear two kinds of jewelry. Unmarried girls generally don't wear nose ornaments, but wear them ceremoniously when they get married. The color can be red, yellow, purple and black, mainly depending on the color of clothes. Married women must wear nose rings and precious gold nose rings. Some people also use gold chains to connect nose rings and earrings to form a unique facial decoration.
3. The nose ring is different in different areas.
In the south, the bride will wear a diamond nose nail or pearl nose ring under her left nostril and a ring on her toe. In the north, the bride wears a gold nose ring and a thin gold chain, and the other end of the chain hangs on her ear.
This custom has a long history in India, and chatting with married women is taboo. Although many people pursue equality between men and women, India's support for them cannot achieve this goal. This ingrained bad habit should be abolished.
