Historical Changes of Sichuan North Road
In the third year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1877), the concession authorities built a road from the north of Libaidu Bridge (now Sichuan Road and Bridge) to Tiantong Road, which was called Libaidu Bridge North. In the 30th year of Guangxu (1904), the concession authorities illegally crossed the old target road (now Wujin Road) and continued to build the road leading to Jinjiashe, Baoshan (now Luxun Park), which became the main road connecting the north and the south. This road is named Sichuan North Road because it is connected with Sichuan Road on the south bank of Suzhou River. 1946 was renamed as Sichuan North Road. Sichuan North Road is adjacent to Suzhou River in the south and Huangpu River, with excellent water transportation conditions. It is not only the water gateway to the world, but also the hub of coastal, Yangtze and inland navigation. It is adjacent to the North Railway Station on the land of Shanghai in the west, and its geographical position is unique. In the 24th year of Guangxu (1898), after the Songhu Railway (now Hongkou section of light rail) was opened to traffic, the land and water transportation on Chuanbei Road was convenient and vendors gathered. The business center began to shift from Broadway Road (now Daming Road) and Wusong Road to Sichuan North Road, and radiated around. Soon, there were more shops and more and more passengers. In the thirty-fourth year of Guangxu (1908), trams turned from Jing 'an Temple to the Bund, and drove on Beichuan Road to Hongkou Park (now Luxun Park). The business and entertainment industries developed one after another. In the same year, Spanish businessman remus founded Hongkou Film (Cinema) Theater in Zhapu Road, Haining Road, south section of Sichuan North Road, becoming the first official cinema in China.

The gradual development of transportation, commerce, entertainment and other industries on Chuanbei Road has promoted the road construction in the surrounding areas. To 19 12, Jiangwan Road (now Dongjiangwan Road), Huang Lu Road (now Huang Du Road), Shigaota Road (now Yin Shan Road), Baolean Road (now Duolun Road), Baibao Luo Lu Road (now Xinxiang Road) and Haske Road (now Zhongzhou Road) were built along Sichuan North Road, forming the north.

Business began to flourish. In the 22nd year of Guangxu (1896), Jiang Liangtong, a businessman, opened the first large-scale Hechang western-style clothes shop in Shanghai at No.8 North Sichuan Road. In the 24th year of Guangxu (1898), various shops such as Xindabei Tea Shop opened for the second time, and the market gradually formed. By 1920, there were 40 tea and food shops in Sichuan North Road, including Youyi Nanju, Xindabei, Gonghe, Xingfeng and Fuxing, 8 woolen silk shops in Xiangtai, Hengfeng Lane and Dedaxiang, 1 1 hardware pigment shop, 2 Wansheng and Liangguangnan grocery stores, and industrial and trade and Juxing fruit shops. 1945 With the victory of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, Japanese overseas Chinese moved back one after another, shops on Chuanbei Road resumed business or changed owners, and trams and buses resumed operation. Sichuan North Road 1946 was renamed Sichuan North Road. 1947, there are more than 500 shops such as clothing, shoes and hats, food and fruit, department stores, restaurants and jewelry stores along Sichuan North Road, and the market characteristics of Yangcheng flavor no longer exist. Business recovery has restored the status of Shanghai's main commercial street. However, line numbers and shops are low, narrow and shallow. This is the commercial street pattern of Sichuan North Road created by history. The area around Qiujiang Road and Qiujiang Branch Road, Sichuan North Road, is famous for selling surplus materials of American troops and materials left by overseas Chinese in Japan.

1949, after the liberation of Shanghai, the commercial street of Sichuan North Road was reborn. Places left over from the old society have been cleared and banned, roads and shops have been rebuilt and repaired many times, and the commercial structure has changed, characterized by convenient shopping and meeting people's daily needs, and new prosperity and development have begun to appear.
