Map of mangshi

Mangshi is the seat of the state capital of Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture in Dehong Prefecture, formerly known as Luxi City. According to legend, "mangshi" was named by the Buddha when he arrived here before dawn, which means "City of Dawn". Mangshi, with an area of about 16.3 square kilometers and a population of 15, has national industries such as sugar making, machinery manufacturing and rubber processing. On both sides of the carefully planned streets, high-rise buildings are lined with kapok, mango, hibiscus and other flowers and trees, which is a beautiful and charming tropical scenery. Mangshi has a prosperous business, with hundreds of shopping malls and jewelry and jade shops. It is a new border town with crowds all day long.

Mangshi Dam is one of the high-quality rice producing areas in Yunnan, and "mangshi millet covered rice" has long been praised by people. In autumn, the Jin Lang of mangshi Dam is rolling and fragrant. "Su Huang, Dai Jiakuang." People beat the elephant foot drum and dance the peacock dance to express the joy of harvest.

In and around mangshi, there are Bordet Ji, Wuyun Temple, Bukoji and other Buddhist temples spreading southward, and there are scenic spots such as Monba Naxi Garden, Bao Shu Pagoda, China-Myanmar Friendship Tree, Western Yunnan Anti-Japanese War Monument, Guolang Wangcheng Site, Feng Ping Pagoda, Fapa Hot Springs, Cannongji in Li Ji, Sanxian Cave and so on. In addition, the person in charge of the company introduced the newly-built Dream Pagoda near Peacock Lake. Currently known as the first golden stupa in China and the first hollow stupa in Asia, it has also become a major Buddhist tourist attraction in mangshi, attracting Chinese and foreign tourists.

Luxi, a famous border city between China and Myanmar, will be renamed as "mangshi".

China News Service, Kunming, July 23rd (Reporter Bao Xu Shi Guanglin) The reporter learned from the Dehong Prefecture Government of Yunnan Province today that the State Council, China recently officially approved the renaming of Luxi City, where the state capital is located, as mangshi. Luxi City is a county-level city in Dehong Prefecture, adjacent to Myanmar. The city is inhabited by six ethnic groups, namely Dai, Jingpo, De 'ang, Achang, Yi and Han, with a total population of 370,000. Mangshi is a town under the jurisdiction of Luxi City. The word "mangshi" first appeared in Ming Dynasty. According to "A Brief History of mangshi Tusi", the jurisdiction at that time started from Shishou Mountain in the east and was bounded by Nujiang River in the northeast, including Mengnong, Pingjia and Xiangda. South to Amon, Mengban and other places, west to the intersection of Yulan River and Mangshi River. "The name of mangshi began here and has been used ever since. In the local area, "Mang" also means "national unity and harmonious coexistence". In fact, the popularity and reputation of "mangshi" at home and abroad is far greater than that of "Luxi". Especially in the Anti-Japanese War in West Yunnan in World War II, the Sino-Myanmar Border People's Gala hosted by Myanmar Prime Minister Zhou Enlai and Prime Minister Ba Swe in mangshi in 1956 made mangshi, a border town, famous in Southeast Asia and the world. Mangshi Hotel, mangshi Airport, mangshi Hall, mangshi Square, etc. appear in a large number of streets and lanes, making most foreign businessmen only know mangshi but not Luxi. Therefore, experts, scholars and some officials suggested that Luxi should be renamed mangshi directly. Scholars believe that "mangshi" and "mangshi" are place names that have evolved from tribal names to common names of all ethnic groups for thousands of years, which have the meaning of unity, harmony and stability and have condensed the spiritual wisdom of all ethnic groups. After renaming, the confusion of place names can be eliminated, and the flow of people, logistics and information can be unblocked, which is conducive to external publicity and visibility. A survey of 475/kloc-0 people in Luxi city shows that the support rate for restoring historical place names and renaming Luxi city as mangshi is 96.96%. On February 5, 2009, Luxi officially started the renaming procedure. Recently, China the State Council officially approved: Luxi City was renamed as mangshi. At present, Luxi City is in the process of renaming cities. Historically, Luxi City was the fortress of the ancient Silk Road in the south, and it was the only place where the Yunnan-Myanmar Highway, stilwell road and China-India oil pipelines passed. With the construction of the West Line of Trans-Asian Railway, China-Myanmar oil and gas pipeline and China-Myanmar land and water transport corridor, Dehong Prefecture wants to turn mangshi Airport into an international airport. By then, the renamed Luxi City will play a more important role in the communication between China and Southeast Asian and South Asian countries. (End)
