At present, there are medical departments, pharmacy departments, anesthesia departments, pediatrics departments, mental health departments and otolaryngology departments in the hospital, with 24 teaching and research departments. There are 9 research laboratories including Hubei Institute of Neuropsychiatric Diseases, Hubei Institute of Pediatric Diseases and Wuhan University Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, Wuhan University Institute of Digestion and Liver Diseases, Wuhan University Institute of Urology, Wuhan University Institute of Ophthalmology, Wuhan University Institute of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and Wuhan University People's Hospital, including gynecology, hearing and voice, exercise and rehabilitation, biomedical engineering and clinical pharmacy. Many disciplines, such as internal medicine, surgery, otolaryngology-head and neck surgery, laboratory, oncology and so on, are awarded doctoral degrees by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee, and all clinical disciplines are awarded master's degrees. It has a post-doctoral mobile station for clinical medicine set up by the Ministry of Personnel, and internal medicine and surgery are key disciplines at the provincial level in Hubei. Cardiovascular medicine, gastroenterology, neurology and psychiatry are the national drug clinical research bases. Cardiovascular internal medicine is a national 211 project construction discipline. The Clinical Virus Laboratory is a part of the State Key Laboratory of Wuhan University, and the Chinese Medicine Pharmacy Laboratory is the State Key Laboratory of Chinese Medicine.

The teaching and research area is located in the former site of Zhangzhidong's two lakes academy and Wuhan branch of the Central Military and Political School (Whampoa Military Academy). Every year, it undertakes the post-teaching tasks of Medical College and Pharmacy College of Wuhan University, where more than 1,2 undergraduates, more than 5 doctoral students, master students, international students and 6 advanced students study and live.
