Can orthodontics be done only in half?
Due to the different degree of personal tooth deformity, many people have great doubts about whether orthodontics can only correct half of the mouth. From the standpoint of professional orthodontics, only half-mouth orthodontics can easily lead to the problem that the upper and lower teeth can not be aligned, leading to orthodontic failure.
For example, there is only the upper jaw, but there is no lower jaw. After the maxillary alignment, the dental arch has formed a relatively stable oval shape, but the lower jaw is still crowded and irregular, and the upper and lower occlusion is completely irregular. The vertical and horizontal occlusion relationship may not be very good. This kind of functional occlusion can never be naturally occluded.
If the arrangement between teeth is not harmonious, the occlusal relationship will be unstable and the occlusal function will not be very good in the future. Over time, it will lead to occlusal interference, which may cause mandibular joint pain and unstable tooth arrangement. After a long time, dentition will gradually relapse and become irregular again.
Generally, unilateral jaw correction is not done, unless it is really a very simple situation, fine-tuning occlusion will be fine, otherwise it will cause occlusion disorder and it will be difficult to end. It's really not worth the loss to have a whole mouth correction in the future. Some doctors indulge their patients, which is irresponsible and will eventually hurt patients.
