Guangdong Zhongshan Third Hospital, a first-class hospital, was founded in 1946. After liberation, especially in the past 20 years of reform and opening up, hospitals have developed rapidly. At present, the hospital has a building area of 220,000 square meters. There are 3 184 employees, including 2694 health technicians. There are 2,052 inpatient beds, and more than 50,000 inpatients are admitted every year. The annual outpatient volume of five outpatient departments, namely Huifu Outpatient Service, Dongchuan Outpatient Service, Herd Outpatient Service, Yingdong Outpatient Service and Old Hospital Outpatient Service, is about 2.68 million person-times. It consists of Guangdong Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (Guangdong Cardiovascular Hospital), Guangdong Institute of Geriatrics (Guangdong Geriatrics Hospital), Guangdong Institute of Mental Health, Guangdong Institute of Lung Cancer and Guangdong Institute of Rural Ophthalmology. There are also six medical centers including Guangdong Weilun Pet Center, Guangdong Weilun Endoscopy Center, Guangdong Clinical Laboratory Center, Guangdong Osteoporosis Prevention Center and Guangdong Medical Research Center, as well as a number of clinical medical, teaching and scientific research institutions such as Guangdong Bone Marrow Bank.
