From January to March 1987, Yu Yueting visited Li Dong during the Spring Festival and asked him to make suggestions for the development of Fujian Taiwan. Li Dong proposed a 60-episode filming plan for the "Liao Zhai" TV series, which was approved by Yu Yueting. Fujian TV Station and Nanchang Film Creation Research Institute decided to cooperate in the filming of "Liao Zhai". The "Liao Zhai" recording headquarters was established, using several private houses rented in the newly built residential area of ??Gongzheng New Village as its office location.

On April 19, a seminar on the creation of "Liao Zhai" was held at the guest house of Feiluan Naval Base in Ningde, Fujian, and 60 works were selected as priority adaptations.
