In principle, rib fractures do not need surgery and heal themselves after fixation.

The key is to relieve the pain and keep the respiratory tract unobstructed.

If it is a closed multiple rib fracture, it can be fixed with a chest strap. If it is a serious multiple rib fracture, auxiliary ventilation is needed at the same time.

If it is an open rib fracture, the wound can be closed after debridement.

If there are other complications that require surgery, or if the rib fracture does not heal for a long time and it is difficult to breathe spontaneously, it can be fixed by surgery.
