In order to write chrysanthemum poems, it is also interesting for Wang Anshi and Ouyang Xiu, who are called "eight masters of Tang and Song Dynasties" by later generations, to discuss chrysanthemum poems. According to Xi Qing's Poems, Wang Anshi wrote a poem "The Endgame": "At dusk, the garden is full of wind and rain, and the endgame falls everywhere." Ouyang Xiu smiled and said, "All the flowers have fallen, but the chrysanthemum branches have withered." In another play, he said: "Autumn English is not better than spring flowers, for journalists and poets to read carefully." Wang Anshi replied, "Don't you know that" the autumn chrysanthemum falls from the English "in The Songs of the South? Ouyang has never learned much." The focus of their argument is whether the chrysanthemums will fall or not. Will the chrysanthemums fall? In fact, this is just the difference between varieties. Although most varieties of chrysanthemums do not shed leaves, there are also a few varieties of chrysanthemums that will shed leaves, but they are relatively rare.

However, what is more specific and vivid about this debate is the article "Three Difficulties of Wang Anshi: Su". This article contains the third volume of Shi Jing Tong Yan, but it was Su Dongpo who argued with Wang Anshi instead of Ouyang Xiu.

It is reported that Su Dongpo went to Beijing to wait for a new appointment after his tenure in Huzhou expired. One day, he went to visit Wang Anshi, the prime minister of the dynasty, and was arranged by his servant to wait for an interview in his study. In his spare time, he walks around the study. Suddenly, he saw a poem called "Yin Ju", which contained only two sentences: "The west wind crossed the garden last night and blew yellow flowers everywhere", but he didn't finish it. He knew it was Wang Anshi's handwriting, but he couldn't figure out how Wang Anshi could write such an unreasonable poem. Because according to him, "Yellow flowers are chrysanthemums. This kind of flower blooms in late autumn, its nature belongs to fire, it dares to fight with autumn frost, it is the most lasting, it will burn as you get old and will not fall down. Isn't it wrong to say' blowing yellow flowers everywhere'? "

Thinking of this, Su Dongpo couldn't help licking the ink with his pen, and continued two songs according to rhyme: "Autumn flowers are not as good as spring flowers, saying that they are carefully sung with poets." After writing, I felt inappropriate, fearing that Wang Anshi would blame him, and left without seeing him.

Later, Wang Anshi learned that Su Dongpo's continued poems mocked himself, so he decided to shake Su Dongpo's pride and teach him a lesson. Because the chrysanthemum sung by Wang Anshi is a special variety, this chrysanthemum is produced in Huangzhou. Soon, after Anshi's arrangement, the court appointed Su Dongpo as the deputy envoy of Huangzhou Yingyong.

Sure enough, a few days after Su Dongpo took office in Huangzhou, there was a strong wind for several days. Su Dongpo and his friend Chen Jichang went to the back garden to enjoy chrysanthemums. Unexpectedly, Huang Cancan's chrysanthemums were scattered all over the floor under the chrysanthemum shed, and there were no flowers on the branches. This scene made Su Dongpo stunned and speechless for a long time. Chen Jichang is very skeptical. Su Dongpo said frankly: "I often don't know. Usually this flower just burns and doesn't fall. " Last year, in Wang Jing's mansion, I saw two lines in his poem "Chanting Chrysanthemum", which said,' Last night, the west wind crossed the garden, blowing yellow flowers everywhere'. The younger brother only said that this was an old mistake, and then continued the poem:' Autumn flowers are not as good as spring flowers. I said I should be careful to sing with poets.' But I don't know that the chrysanthemum in Huangzhou really fell! The old man moved his brother to Huangzhou and showed me chrysanthemums. "

What is commendable is that Su Dongpo finally realized his mistake in the face of facts, and he has been modest since then.
