The Ninth People's Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine was founded in 1920, formerly known as "Bethel Hospital".
1952 was renamed Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital.
1964 officially became the Ninth People's Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Second Medical University (hereinafter referred to as the "Ninth Hospital").
In 2005, Shanghai Second Medical University and Shanghai Jiaotong University formally merged, and the Ninth Hospital was renamed as the Ninth People's Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine (hereinafter referred to as "the Ninth Hospital").
20111In 2004, with the consent of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, the resources of the Ninth People's Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine and the Third People's Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine (formerly Baosteel Hospital, a tertiary general hospital) were integrated, and the north and south campuses were managed in a unified way. The first name of Shanghai Third People's Hospital is "Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine Affiliated Ninth People's Hospital (North)"
