Why change pots and prune roots for potted cherries?
The potted cherry trees grow up day by day, and the roots gradually cover the whole basin, and the extended roots grow along the basin wall, forming layers of dense root rings. If this goes on, the potted soil will be short of nutrients and the roots will age, which will affect the growth and development of aboveground plants, so it is necessary to change the pots in time. One is to change a small basin into a large basin to increase the volume of the container; The second is to repair and renew the root system, remove some old roots, promote new roots and enhance the absorption capacity of the root system; Third, take the opportunity to replace some nutrient soil and improve the nutrient composition of the basin soil.

Pot changing period should be carried out after defoliation in autumn or before germination in early spring of the following year. The roots damaged by changing pots in autumn can be recovered for some time before winter. Changing pots in early spring will not greatly destroy the balance of the above-ground and underground parts. When changing pots, turn the bamboo pieces left and right along the inner wall of the pot, so that there is a gap between the soil in the pot and the wall of the pot, then turn the pot upside down and hold the big cherry plants and the soil by hand. Because the mouth of the basin is large and small, plants and soil pour out under the action of gravity. At this point, use a sharp knife to cut off the old basin soil and dense root system about 2-3 cm thick around the soil. The new pot should be soaked in clear water, some twigs (or hair) should be stuffed in the drainage hole at the bottom of the pot, and the base fertilizer should be applied, and then the plants and soil balls should be put into the new pot. And fill in new nutrient soil around the basin, while filling and pressing, so that the soil is closely connected with the root group, and then water it.

Generally, change pots and cut roots once every 2-3 years, so that the nutrition of pot soil is often supplemented. In this way, the old roots can be eliminated in time, and more and more new roots can be found. This is the same as pruning the branches and vines above the ground every year and "replacing the old with the new", so as to achieve the purpose of mutual promotion between the above-ground and underground parts and the overall rejuvenation of the whole plant.
