1. Pinus taiwanensis. In the "bonsai accidentally recorded" in the Qing Dynasty, Pinus taiwanensis was listed as the first of the "seven sages" of bonsai plants, showing its popularity. It is green all year round, with two needles in a bunch, bright green and slightly hard. The trunk is often curved, the bark is dark grayish brown and reddish, and the scales are cracked. The crown is like a cover, vigorous and elegant.

2. Five-needle pine. The four seasons are green, the branches and leaves are spreading, with five needles in a bunch, the needles are short and dense, the branches are clustered, the bark is dark gray, and the scales are cracked. Dense yellowish pilose on green-brown branchlets. It is one of the most common bonsai trees, with slow growth, short tree shape and dignified posture. Pine with five needles grows very fast and is rarely used in bonsai. It grows taller, and it will grow up in a few years. I have also made five-needle pine bonsai, which is mainly used in urban green belts. Leaves fall easily and change quickly.

3. black pine. Dark green in all seasons, needles in bundles of two needles, dark green, thick and hard, gray-black bark and cracked scales. Slow growth, branches spread horizontally, canopy covered, vigorous and magnificent. Black pine is the most popular in recent years. A pot of black pine bonsai of the Bonsai Association once shouted out hundreds of thousands of high prices, especially the wild pile heads, which were even more expensive.

4. Jinsong. Black pine varieties, branches of the scales are particularly deep cracking, more old and strange.

5. Pinus massoniana. Evergreen all year round, the needles are long and soft, and the bark is irregularly thick. Usually planted as timber forest. Pinus massoniana is also a good material for making bonsai, especially miniature bonsai, which is very beautiful. My friends also made many miniature masson pine bonsai.
