How long will the black pine explode?
July-August is usually the hottest period of the year, which makes us feel very uncomfortable. But for black pine bonsai, this stage is precisely the best time to control needles and force buds. Because the growth of black pine in this period is particularly vigorous, it can be said that it is its vigorous growth period. So at this time, the black pine is easy to germinate, and the new buds grow quickly.

In this season's black pine bonsai, the needles are short, dense and neat in the late stage of needle control and germination.

However, in the early autumn after 1 month, the physiological metabolism process of pine trees will gradually slow down, so the newly grown tender pine needles will not be too long, but appear short and dense, which is very in line with the aesthetic appreciation of pine bonsai. Therefore, if the needles are controlled and germinated in July and August in midsummer every year, it will be more ornamental after autumn.

However, it should be noted that the branches of Pinus thunbergii have a characteristic, that is, they will explode after growing for about 9 months. However, no matter how to control the needle, the branches that have exploded usually cannot force new buds. Not only that, it is usually difficult to force new branches to grow through control after lignification. Therefore, although July-August every summer is very suitable for needle control and germination of Pinus thunbergii, it is impossible to achieve the above two branches.

Of course, it does not rule out that sometimes a small number of new buds may be forced out of the above two forms of branches, but the new buds forced out are often adventitious buds. And we can't control where it is forced out, because the new buds of black pine need the guidance of old needles. If there is no old needle, it is difficult to force new buds. In other words, only by controlling needles and accelerating germination where there are old needles can new buds sprout smoothly. This is also the reason why many bare lignified branches can't force out new buds.

In addition, we also need to scale the branches according to the modeling needs of black pine. If we want to keep the branch longer, then the candle wick at the top of the branch should be kept and not touched. Moreover, only a small amount of old needles around the candle core are kept, and the old needles far away from the candle core should be removed. This can concentrate nutrition and supply more nutrients to the wick, thus achieving the purpose of promoting branch elongation.

On the other hand, if we need to shorten the branches to promote the growth of new buds, then we need to remove the candle core at the end of the branches. After pulling out the redundant old needles, new buds will also emerge from the places left by the old needles, thus successfully accelerating germination. But if we force the buds to grow by cutting, new buds will grow at the cutting place.

However, whether pulling needles or cutting buds, it is necessary to keep a certain number of old needles in the place where germination is scheduled, so that the old needles can drive the germination and growth of new buds. But when the new buds grow to the length of 1 cm, all the old needles should be pulled out in time. If you don't pull it out, you need to shorten it. The advantage of this is not only to concentrate nutrition supply, but also to avoid uneven pine needles, thus bringing a more balanced aesthetic feeling to people as a whole.

After controlling needles to promote germination, the bonsai of black pine should be maintained in an environment with sufficient light and good ventilation, and water control management should be done well at the same time. However, water control only controls watering, and people who spray water on leaves still need to spray water frequently. This can better promote the germination of new buds of Pinus thunbergii and make the new buds grow healthily.
