In the mid-1970s, the demand for secondary school places in Hong Kong surged., The Education Department plans to convert some existing government primary schools into aided secondary schools to solve the problem.

After consultation with the education department, the General Affairs Office of the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong is willing to take over the school building reconstructed from Shixiawei Government Primary School in Nanchang Street and start a co-educational grammar school with 18 classes, and the reconstruction plan will start immediately. Under the appointment of Bishop Hu, the school board is composed of Vice Bishop Lin Xunwei, the late Father Yu, the school supervisor Father Yu Shangshi and the principal Chu Fu. In September, because the renovation project has not been completed, six classrooms on the top floor of Baitian Catholic Primary School will be borrowed for classes in the first month of school. In July, with the support of parents and students, the school successfully applied to the education department to open a liberal arts class for the sixth grade, and students took the public examination at 1985. Major maintenance work was carried out this summer vacation, including repainting the interior and exterior walls and replacing cables and wires. The first graduation ceremony was held on March 13, and Father Holly, the representative of bishop education affairs in Hong Kong, was urged to officiate.

In September, the school opened a sixth-grade liberal arts class. He applied to the education department, and was approved to set up intermediate level 6 science classes and take the public examination 1987. The school board discussed the expansion of the school building with the education department and sought the opinions of the faculty and staff on the plan.

In July, the teaching department of design and technology was expanded, and the area increased by about one third, which can accommodate more equipment for students in HKCEE class. Part of the school office was transformed into a computer room that can accommodate 20 students. 1984- 1985 added a computer course to the students of Grade 4, which is one of the elective subjects for HKCEE. Chen Tianlong, a fifth-grade science student, achieved excellent results in HKCEE and enrolled in the preparatory course in queen elizabeth school (because the school did not offer courses in 1995). Later, she won the Lee Shau Kee Scholarship with excellent results in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, physics and chemistry, and went to Oxford University to study for a degree course.
