There are two most commonly used methods to cultivate tree-shaped roses. One is to prune the dry ones in the upright type into small trees, and the other is to cultivate them into tree-shaped roses or umbrella-shaped roses by grafting. The specific methods are as follows:
Most of the dry big-flowered roses can be cultivated into tree-shaped roses. When Ding Zhuang develops into a very strong and thick base branch in the month, it is strengthened and trimmed properly to make it stand upright and strong, and when the backbone grows to a certain height, it is topped. Select 3 to 4 strong main branches with different development directions on the main branches, and remove the other branches from the base.
Tree-shaped rose is cultivated by grafting. Roses with strong roots are used as rootstocks on weekdays. One-year-old robust roses are selected and cut 5cm away from the air. Scions are selected from old branches with strong dryness, vigorous growth, good tree shape, strong and empty, and are continuously split. After grafting survives, it is necessary to control reproductive development until the backbone is formed. In the current governance, it is necessary to erase the rootstock buds at any time.
In order to cultivate a tree-shaped rose with beautiful crown, pruning and shaping are indispensable. Pruning of rose can be roughly divided into two types: pruning in dormant period (winter pruning) and pruning in developing season (after flowering):
Pruning in dormant period (winter pruning): at first, the dead branches, branches with diseases and insect pests, interspersed branches and weak branches with poor development are cut off from the base, and then pruning is continued according to the development of the plant, so as to reduce the mouth buds. When cutting in winter, we should pay attention to the master-slave relationship between branches, and the interval between cutting mouth and axillary bud should be 1 to 1.5cm in the center. The inclination of 45 degrees is opposite to the deviation of buds.
Pruning in the development season (pruning after flowering): In order to gather nutrients and sprout new branches, pruning should be done in real time after the first flowering, and a strong bud should be left in the empty part of the branch to cut, and 3 to 4 buds can be saved on the ordinary branch. When pruning, attention should be paid to light pruning of strong branches and heavy pruning of weak branches to achieve the goal of balanced tree development. When pruning after the second flower planting, it should be light, but it can be cut under the second piece with five leaflets under the residual flower. Because it is very hot summer at this time, take short and medium cuts, leaving 3 to 4 buds on each branch, and the flowers will bloom continuously in late September. This batch of flowers can continue to first frost, and as the temperature drops, the Chinese rose stops developing and enters a long dormant period. After this flowering, the residual flowers are usually cut off or not, so as to meet the nutrition and make the branches empty, so as to prepare for winter. Because premature pruning is easy to cause new branches to sprout, the plants will be frozen.
