A probe into the perfect face shape in Korea: How is the square face made?
Square face, also called Chinese character face, in our traditional culture, men have a square Chinese character face, which means mature, responsible and reliable. On the other hand, the female national character face is too resolute and lacks femininity. Especially today's V-shaped face, square face has become the trouble of women who love beauty. So, can the perfect face be shaped? Can a square face be avoided? Here Korean experts analyze the reasons for the formation of square face.

What is a square face? Square face is the part commonly known as cheek under the ears. If it is swollen and prominent, from the front, the contours on both sides of the face are vertically downward and intersect with the lower contour line at almost right angles, making the lower third of the face look wide and wide. This is the so-called square face, also called mandibular angle hypertrophy. For the average man, a square face is not a shortcoming, but gives people a sense of fortitude. However, being disproportionately overweight is another matter. For women, if they are tall athletes, or people with aggressive style and strong personality, the mandibular angle is slightly larger. For women in general, especially gentle and quiet women, mandibular angle hypertrophy is obviously not suitable. Many women suffer as a result. They often cover themselves with their hair, are unwilling to participate in social activities, and even form a withdrawn character.

Anatomically speaking, the formation of square face is mainly due to the overgrowth of mandibular angle (a part of mandible) bone or masseter muscle, or both, which is called mandibular angle hypertrophy (or benign masseter muscle hypertrophy) in medicine. Generally, mandibular angle hypertrophy is mostly bilateral, and unilateral is not uncommon. It is often related to teenagers eating too many snacks and chewing gum (or betel nut) during their physical development, or it may be caused by grinding their teeth at night.

All these make the levator palatini muscle group (masseter muscle, medial pterygoid muscle, etc. ) excessive exercise stimulates the development of muscles and bones in the mandibular angle area, and finally presents "square face deformity". Therefore, it can be considered that there are two reasons for mandibular angle hypertrophy: one is mandibular angle bony hypertrophy; Second, the masseter muscle is overdeveloped, with prominent cheeks on both sides. Specific to everyone, the influence of the two causes may be different, whether it is mainly bone or muscle, but from the clinical experience, both are often accompanied at the same time. Some people are genetically caused, and their parents or relatives often have mandibular angle hypertrophy.
