The first three years of big cherry planting are its young tree period, and the plants are mainly vegetative growth, generally bearing no fruit or a small amount of fruit. Let's talk about how to manage the big cherry after planting, that is, how to manage the young cherry for your reference.
First, how to manage the big cherry in the first year after planting
In the first year after planting big cherry, it is mainly to ensure that the soil has enough water. If there is little rainfall, water should be poured every two months until the soil freezes. Generally, the water content of soil should be around 15%.
Generally speaking, in the first year after planting, there is basically no need for other management except watering.
Second, how to manage the big cherry in the second year after planting?
The most important work in the second year is young tree management. In the spring of the second year after planting, pruning and shaping should be carried out before the shoots of big cherry sprout, because the tree body reacts gently and is not easy to be injured during this period. The principle of pulling branches in the young tree period is: select 3-4 main branches more than 50 cm from the ground and pull them in different directions to make them evenly distributed.
The opening angle of the main branch of the big cherry must be large, generally about 80 degrees between the main branch and the trunk. The large opening angle of the main branch can weaken the apical advantage and promote flowering and fruiting.
When pulling branches, if the branches are still hard, you can't pull them hard. You should first soften the technical strips, and then gradually pull them horizontally to avoid breaking branches. In addition to selecting 3-4 main branches, it is also necessary to select an upright branch as the trunk of big cherry to cultivate the second main branch. Select the trunk and cut off its tip to promote the germination of the second main branch.
After the trunk and main branches are treated, there are still redundant branches on the tree body, which can be sparse one by one. After pruning and draining, the next step is to carve buds.
This time, the bud carving is to carve the bud on the main branch and let the main branch sprout the side branch. However, it is very important to carve a few buds on the main branch. Generally, the upper and lower buds on the main branch are not engraved, but the whole buds on both sides of the main branch should be engraved, so that the lateral branches that grow in the future will be horizontally distributed and will not disturb the tree vertically.
Third, how to manage the big cherry in the third year after planting.
The second layer of main branches also germinated. Like the method of pulling out branches in the first year, we also pull out the second layer of main branches, so that the first layer of main branches and the second layer of main branches grow alternately and are evenly distributed in space, so as to achieve the effects of no grinding of branches, no touching of tips and no shadow of sunshine crown.
4. If the management of big cherry planting in the fourth year is in place, it can enter the high-yield period in the fourth year. Pruning is the main tree management in the fruit-bearing period of big cherry. During this period, the first main branch of the big cherry tree has been covered by lateral branches, and the second main branch has also been formed. Therefore, our main task is to thin branches and cut them short.
It is mainly to remove the lateral branches on the main branch, and the distribution of the lateral branches on the main branch is preferably symmetrical shark's fin shape, extending horizontally to both sides. The distance between the lateral branches is15-20cm. The vertical upward and vertical downward lateral branches can be thinned, and the lateral branches that are too close to each other also need to be thinned.
If some main branches do not have enough side branches, we can continue to use the method of carving buds to promote the formation of side branches. If the lateral branches of a main branch are sparse and there are obvious vacancies in this place, we can find a lateral bud in this place and continue to carve buds on the main branch as we did when we were young to promote it to sprout lateral branches.
