Changing pots for Clivia and pruning roots are the key. If you do it well, Xinye will run away soon.

To raise Clivia, change the flowerpot at least once a year, in spring or autumn. If your Clivia has not blossomed or withered, you can consider changing the flowerpot for Clivia at this time.

The most critical step in changing pots for Clivia is pruning the roots.

Clivia has a characteristic: its roots are related to its leaves. When new roots grow at the bottom, new leaves will grow with them. If the new root doesn't grow all the time, it can't grow new leaves anyway. This is what we call a stiff seedling. The purpose of changing pots and pruning roots is to activate the growth of roots. Let's look at the operation method.

1, remove the basin and clear the soil:

Before you are going to change the pot for your Clivia, you must cut off the water for a week. When taking off the pot, turn the flowerpot sideways and pat the outside of the pot gently. When the soil begins to separate from the pot wall, take out the plants together with the soil. Then clean up most of the soil on the plants, and then gently rinse the soil attached to the roots of the plants with clear water.

2, rotten root pruning:

Clivia has a thick and soft root system and a lot of meat, but it is easy to break, often accompanied by rotten roots. If it is not cleaned in time, it will endanger the life of plants. Therefore, in the process of finishing, the roots should be trimmed first, especially the rotten roots.

If the whole root system is sick or rotten, it should be cut off without hesitation; For partially rotten roots, you can cut off the rotten parts with sterilized scissors.

3, repair the old empty root:

After years of growth, Clivia is prone to some old roots and empty roots, while the old roots are black and thin, and the empty roots are just a layer of skin. These roots can not only provide nutrients for plants effectively, but also consume nutrients continuously, and also bring the danger of root rot. For these two types of roots, we need to remove them both.

4, pruning skills:

Whether cleaning rotten roots, old roots or empty roots, if you can break them with your fingers, try not to trim them, because the roots of Clivia are delicate, and cutting them off with scissors is easy to cause large wound sections.

If you break it by hand, the wound is smaller and the damage to plants is smaller.

But if the wound area is too large, it is easy to be infected with germs, leading to root rot. Therefore, it is suggested that it can be broken as far as possible.

5, root tip care:

In the process of cleaning up the root system of Clivia, we should try not to damage the root tips of healthy roots, which is an important condition to ensure that the plants will come back soon after they are newly planted in the pot. On the other hand, if the root tip is damaged, it will take a long time for the plants planted in the new pot to grow safely and slowly, and a little carelessness will easily lead to yellow leaves and deciduous leaves.

6, disinfection and drying:

Before changing pots, we need to disinfect the roots of plants and then put them in a cool and ventilated place to dry. First, the pruned Clivia plants are soaked in the mixed solution of potassium permanganate and water for a few minutes, then taken out, coated with carbendazim or dipped with a layer of plant ash, and then dried in a cool and ventilated place for half a day.

7. Pot with soil:

After the root system of Clivia is dry, we can colonize the pot. Before we put it on the pot, we should prepare pot soil, and mix and match it with 5 parts humus soil +2 parts pine needles +2 parts river sand +2 parts carbon residue to make it into culture soil.

Then put the plants in and cover the soil correctly. Give plants a period of time to slow down their seedlings after potted plants are finished. In addition to not watering and fertilizing immediately after the potted plants are finished, watering and fertilizing cannot be carried out during the slow planting period.

The incubation period is about 3 months. After the end of the slow seedling stage, we can increase the watering intensity and apply fertilizer appropriately.

The above is the method of changing pots and pruning roots of Clivia. As long as everyone follows this method, I believe you can also change pots safely for your plants. Combined with daily management, I believe your potted Clivia will have a bright green day.
