From left to right are the new FM, FH, FH16 and FMX
Volvo held a new car launch conference last week. This conference released four models in one go The main models are FH, FH16, FM and FMX. After the press conference, some people thought that the new car did not change much, but was more like a new model optimized based on the previous generation product.
We will explain Volvo’s four new cars in detail in two articles. In this article we will introduce the FH and FH16 models.
The picture above is Volvo’s new FH heavy truck. Its overall shape has no disruptive changes from the previous generation model. It still uses the FH cab used in the previous generation model.
The above is a comparison of the two generations of FH. The upper picture is of the previous generation FH, while the lower picture is of the newly released FH. As mentioned before, the platform of the entire vehicle has not changed, but there are subtle changes in appearance. The upper part of the front face of the two cars remains the same, while the lower part has changed significantly.
The lights on the left and right sides have been greatly changed. The trapezoidal lights of the previous generation have been changed to V-shaped lights, and the guide grooves on the left and right sides of the lights have been cancelled. The entire bumper adopts smooth deal with. The small lamp below has also been changed from a trapezoid to an irregular quadrilateral, and its size has also been reduced, and is set off by a black back panel.
In addition, the new FH is also equipped with adaptive high-beam headlights. When a vehicle is approaching from the opposite direction, it will automatically turn off the LED headlights in the high-beam section to avoid high-beam hazards. Blind to the driver. The radar and camera will also adjust the high and low beams according to the amount of lights of other road participants.
Close-up of the air intake grille
The grille still retains the shape of the previous model, and the two-layer bowl-shaped pedal design in the lower part is retained. The grille style still uses a honeycomb air intake grille. The width of the grille seems to be thickened, and it looks particularly full after being sprayed with color.
The front grille hides some obviously exposed parts, making it look neater. The most important thing is that the VOLVO lettering in the upper left corner of the air intake grille has been canceled on the new generation model. The rest of the parts have not changed much compared to the previous model.
Let’s talk about the FH16?750 again. It should be regarded as a special model under the Volvo FH series. From its appearance, you can clearly see its special positioning. An all-steel high-mounted bumper is used, and protective covers are installed on the left and right lights. The middle air intake grille has also been changed from a honeycomb grille to a longitudinal grille, and a silver decorative strip is pasted on the pedal.
The turn signal is no longer connected to the bumper, but a groove is dug in the door to install the turn signal.
The new FH is equipped with five cabs, as shown in the picture above. They are fully flat-top cab with sleeper; mid-roof cab; Global Traveler cab; Global Traveler XL cab; Global Traveler XXL cab.
The cab of the FH16 model is basically the same as that of the FH.
The interior of the car has also been slightly improved. The picture above is the interior of the previous generation model, and the picture below is the interior of the new model. The overall shape still retains the layout of the previous generation model, and the multi-function buttons on the left and right sides have been slightly changed.
The instrument panel display size is 12 inches
The biggest change should be the instrument panel. The traditional Volvo symmetrical physical instrument has been changed to a full LED liquid crystal display, and the driver can adjust the data on the display according to needs. Judging from the reflection in the picture above, the surface of the display is frosted to avoid reflection.
The LCD display of the previous generation model was embedded in the groove of the center console, and the size of the display screen could not be expanded. The new FH uses a floating display, which increases the size of the display?

The cabin interior styling of the FH16 is similar to that of the FH model Basically the same, the difference is that burgundy decorative strips are added to make the interior more textured. Not only the decorative strips, but also the color matching of the sleepers are different. FH16 is covered in burgundy, which is slightly high-end.

It is not difficult to see from the vehicle interior that the FH and FH16 models have two different positions. To be precise, FH It should be a mid-to-high-end model, while the FH16 is a completely high-end model. Although the platforms of the two cars are exactly the same, there are certain differences in interior configurations and chassis configurations, and there will definitely be a big gap in price.
In terms of vehicle safety, Volvo has improved its ACC adaptive cruise system. Under normal circumstances, ACC adaptive cruise needs to be activated at a certain vehicle speed, but after the improvement, the new car can be activated as long as the speed is above 0km/h. When going downhill, the system will automatically activate the brake assist system to ensure safety when going downhill. As for the anti-collision system, the distance warning system and the lane departure system are all standard.
The new Volvo FH16 can also be equipped with an optional road sign recognition system. While the vehicle is driving, the system can automatically detect signs such as no overtaking, road type, and speed limit, and display them to the driver through the dashboard.
This further improves the convenience of driving and prevents drivers from worrying about missing a road sign.
In terms of power, Volvo FH is equipped with a 460-500 horsepower D13TC engine by default. The engine can output maximum torque at 900-1300 rpm, and the engine emission standards meet Euro 6. In addition, European regions can also choose natural gas engines that meet Euro 6 emission standards, which can reduce the impact on the environment.
The FH16 is equipped with a 16L D16K engine, and the engine emission standards meet Euro 6D. The D16K engine provides three types of power, namely 550 horsepower and 2800N.m; 650 horsepower and 3150N.m; and 750 horsepower and 3550N.m. Like the FH, it is also equipped with Volvo's I-shift transmission.
In terms of chassis, Volvo FH16 has been optimized for heavy-duty transportation, and it provides the option of a multi-axle chassis. The maximum five-axle chassis can be selected, and its maximum towing capacity can reach 325 tons, meeting the needs of the large transport market.

The new Volvo FH and FH16 may not seem to have changed much, but in fact every detail has been optimized to adapt to the new market need. The most critical thing is that the degree of intelligence of the vehicle has increased, which reduces the fatigue of the driver while driving the vehicle and improves the safety of the vehicle during driving. In the next article, we will introduce two new cars, Volvo FM and FMX, so stay tuned.
