Make pigeon specimens
Materials: scalpel, scissors, tweezers, dissecting plate, cotton wool, writing brush, needle and thread, rubber or foam, glass sheet, formaldehyde, specimen bottle (tube).

Production method:

(1) Stripping off the body wall: Take a mature domestic pigeon (for example), starve for two days, remove the food accumulated in the intestinal tract, then kill it, and pluck its feathers before dissection.

First cut the skin along the keel process, forward to the base of the beak, and then to the cloaca. Then cut the skin to the right along the lower edge of the skull from the incision at the base of the beak, cut it to the middle line of the back neck of the skull, and cut off the skin on the right side of the neck. Then cut the body wall along the abdominal line until the sternum is cut, and then cut off the right leg and wings together with the sternum, ribs and body wall. Then separate the left pectoral muscle from the bone, cut off the sternum and ribs, keep the pectoral muscle, turn the pectoral muscle to the left, make transverse and longitudinal incisions along the periphery, keep the left wing and legs, and cut off the left body wall to expose all internal organs.

(2) Plastic surgery: use a needle and thread to pass through the skin of the neck, back and wing legs respectively, and tie the specimen to a glass sheet for plastic surgery. First turn your head to the right, put the trachea, esophagus and windpipe in place, with the small intestine disk on the left and the pancreas and gizzard pulled to the right. If the liver blocks the testicles (ovaries and kidneys), five parts on the right side of the liver can be cut vertically, and the lower part of the liver is padded with cotton wool to expose all the urinary and reproductive systems. After the internal organs are arranged, pad them with cotton wool or insert pins as shown in the figure, and then fix them with a brush coated with formaldehyde solution. After hardening, put it into 5% formaldehyde transition solution (to avoid polluting the preservation solution during formal bottling), and bottle it after one week.

(3) bottling: according to the size of the specimen, select the appropriate specimen bottle (tube). Before bottling, rubber or foam can be used as four glass plate fixing feet, two gaskets can be embedded in the bottom of the glass plate, and two gaskets can be inserted on both sides of the glass plate (or all four can be embedded on both sides). After filling into the specimen bottle, add 5% formaldehyde solution for storage.
