Microauricular malformation is a kind of auricle malformation at birth. According to the statistics of different races, its incidence rate is about 5000~7000. 90% of microtia occurs on one side, and the right side is twice as large as the left side. 65% are boys and 35% are girls.
Microauricular malformation syndrome can be divided into three grades according to the degree of development:
Mild: All parts of the auricle can be diagnosed. The concha cavity and ear hole are small, but the outline is small, and the inner surface of the ear canal is often blind.
Moderate: Most of the auricle structure is unrecognizable, the residual ear is irregular, peanut-shaped, boat-shaped, sausage-shaped, and the external auditory canal is often closed.
Severity: The residual ear is just a small vegetation or a hill, or an earlobe with an odor.
Children with microtia correction will probably start to pay attention to their "specialties" when they are 3 to 3 and a half years old. They began to compare the differences of their ears in the mirror and began to mention their "strange ears". When children pay attention to their ears, parents should tell them that they were born with ears. When they grow up, the doctor will fix their ears and treat them as completely normal children.
