Physiological drooling
At the age of 6 months, the baby's salivary glands gradually mature and the amount of saliva secretion increases. However, at this time, the child's swallowing function is not perfect, his mouth is shallow, and his lip closing and swallowing movements are not coordinated, so he often drools. When the child is six or seven months old, the teeth that are erupting stimulate the nerves in the mouth, the salivary glands have matured, saliva is secreted in large quantities, and the phenomenon of drooling is more obvious. Physiological drooling will disappear naturally with the growth and development of children.
Pathological drooling
When a child suffers from some oral diseases such as stomatitis, tongue ulcer and pharyngitis, the mouth and throat are very painful, and even swallowing saliva is unbearable, and saliva cannot be swallowed normally and keeps flowing out. At this time, the saliva is often yellow or pink, which has a bad smell. Parents should take their children to the hospital for examination and treatment after discovering this situation.
