In the fifth year of the Republic of China (19 16), He Zonglian, then governor of Chahar, abandoned his official position and made a guest appearance. That year, dozens of acres of gardens along the moat in the west were chosen to build houses. The gate faces the river to the east. The northern part of the courtyard is residential and the southern part is garden. The name of the garden is "Yiyuan", commonly known as "Hejia Garden".
Yiyuan Garden has two halls, namely the living room and the square room. The living room is located on the right, and it is a mixed masonry structure building. Surrounded by four towers on the front, the wooden lattice is divided into walls, and the red paint is dazzling. Several indoor tables and chairs are elegant and gorgeous, and there are all kinds of calligraphy, painting and antiques. President Lee of the Republic of China presented a gold plaque with a letter from a thousand cities hanging in the middle. The square hall on the left is ingenious and original. Around the city wall, there are four doors and windows in the east, four in the west and five in the north and south. Doors and windows made of high-quality wood are carefully carved and covered with glass. The square hall is spacious and bright, which is the central place for entertainment and appreciation of the scenery of Yiyuan Garden.
Rockery in the park is divided into flat, peak and terrace. Every part is clear and elegant. Climbing along the winding path, pine, cypress, Sophora japonica, bamboo, exotic flowers and different grasses crisscross. If you go up the stairs, the steps will be different. The rockery is rugged, each showing its beauty. The six-sided pavilion is located on the platform of the top of the mountain, with scarlet columns and patterns painted on the beams and sandalwood. There are also streams and lotus ponds in the park. The stream takes water from Wulongtan, surrounds the main hall, flows at the foot of the rockery and pours into the lotus pond. There are weeping willows planted by the stream, one after another; Equipped with strange stones, water stands. The reflection of the six-sided pavilion on the top of the mountain in the water is flickering. Every summer and autumn, the red leaves and green leaves of the lotus pond set each other off; Goldfish shuttles between lotus flowers and floating arch bridges, and swims around at the tail, which is full of fun.
Although the scale of Yiyuan Garden is not large, it is novel in concept, ingenious in layout and rigorous in structure. This garden with the style of Jiangnan water town was merged into Jinan Children's Activity Station in 1964, which is now Jinan Youth Palace.
