Because the mode of saxophone is similar to that of woodwind, it is often divided into woodwind groups in the grouping of musical instruments. By comparison, it can be found that saxophone has only closed keys, while clarinet has closed keys and open keys, so it is different in structure.
Saxophone is a very young musical instrument. Before saxophone was invented, the system of western musical instruments was mature. In addition, saxophone is rarely used in regular orchestras. Traditional wood pipes and copper pipes require pure timbre. Personally, I think the timbre of saxophone is more suitable for solo, and it is less integrated with the timbre of other instruments. Among our common wind instruments, the more individual the timbre is, the more suitable it is for solo, and the worse its integration with other instruments. You can't have your cake and eat it.
For example, suona is a wind instrument with unique timbre in national wind music. In western wind music, the oboe timbre in woodwind is prominent, and the horn timbre in copper pipe is the most complete, so the trombone timbre should be prominent.
The characteristics of saxophone are labor-saving, easy to learn, individual timbre, pleasant to listen, and many people like it, so saxophone has a good mass base in western wind music. Due to the characteristics of its timbre, we should pay attention to it when combining with other wind music. Generally speaking, it is difficult to get involved in folk music. When combining western wind music, we should pay attention to the fact that the proportion of saxophone cannot be high. My experience is that saxophones should not exceed about one-fifth of the total number, and mainly focus on alto and tenor, otherwise the overall timbre will be soft. If too many people play saxophone, just form a pure saxophone band and make full use of the characteristics of musical instruments.
