The drama of the Northern Song Dynasty is called Song Zaju. Influenced by pre-Qin Nuo Opera, Opera, Tang Opera and Song and Dance Opera, it consists of various artistic performances, such as mask performance, Pinghua, burlesque and story performance. Terrace is an important place for the performance of Song Zaju.
During the Northern Song Dynasty, during the Lantern Festival, temporary terraces were often built in the city. "History of Song Dynasty, Lezhi 17" contains "Every time I go to Yuan to watch lanterns, a stage is set up in front of the building, and workshop music and children's dance teams are played on the stage".
According to the existing literature, the inscription "Newly Built Terraces in Dongyue Temple" in the third year of Jintai, Ruicheng County, Shanxi Province (1203) records that "there is only one terrace, and the soil is tired" and "carry forward the old tradition and build bricks to increase its foundation". Examples of remains are the Golden Steps of Jinci in Shanxi and the Zhongyue Temple Steps in Dengfeng, Henan.
Jinci Jintai is a square abutment, paved with masonry, without a top cover, surrounded by brick fences, with steps in front and back, more than 50 meters away from Notre Dame Hall. According to the location and shape of the terrace and the creation time of the memorial hall, it is speculated that the Golden Temple Golden Man Terrace was first created at the same time as the main hall.
The Jin Dynasty began to build balconies on a large scale. Before the terraced fields were built, most of the performances were "abandoned", and a large number of people gathered around the actors to watch the performances. The creation of the terrace has improved the status of the actors, and the voice of the actors can be directly conveyed to the public from the stage.
