The traditional folk culture in Jianning Township is rich and colorful. There is a custom of playing with lanterns and making a fire every year during the Lantern Festival.
During the festival, in order to create a rich social fire culture atmosphere, people in Jianning built colored sheds, Baimen Building, erected fire arches and hung red lanterns in Jianning Old Street, He Qiao Street, Dongsi Street, Xingning Road, Xiangzhong Road and Outer Ring Road. Gezhuang people gathered in the ancient town of Jianning, and took turns to perform folk stunts such as nine lotus lanterns, walking on stilts, carrying piles, dancing dragons, lions, old Ge nao, fireballs, Wu stories, clearing yangko and floating boats, which were very lively.
2. Paper-cutting art
During the Spring Festival or wedding, Jianning people put different kinds of paper-cuts on windows or walls to celebrate. The content involves different themes such as playing plum with magpie, fish arch and phoenix peony. Many paper-cuts are colorful and exquisite.
3. Other traditional cultures
Traditional culture also includes embroidery, dough sculpture, folk drama (Bangzi in Shangdang and Xia Zi in Shangdang), Nuo opera, setting up a twist (scattering street lamps), striking iron flowers, ancient marriage customs and funeral.
