The terrain of the nature reserve is high in the south and low in the north, with Baiyin Aobao Mountain in the south as the highest point, with an altitude of 1, 498.8 meters, gradually decreasing to the north, with little topographic fluctuation. Most of the nature reserves are east-west continuous irregular ridge fixed sand belts, and a few are semi-fixed sand and sporadic crescent dunes, with an average elevation of about1.350m.. According to the site conditions and plant composition, the spruce forest in Baiyin Aobao National Nature Reserve in Inner Mongolia can be divided into four types, namely, spruce forest in moss-moss sandy land, spruce forest in grass-mixed sandy land, spruce forest in birch sandy land and spruce forest along the river. When the tree canopy density is 0.6-0.8, the height of Picea mongolica is 25-36m, the average tree height is about12m, the average DBH is 22-36cm, the average tree age is 80- 120 years, and the maximum tree age is about 400 years. In addition, there are birch forest, Yang Shulin and elm forest on the sand. The total volume of standing trees is 97339 cubic meters.
The flora of Baiyin Aobao National Nature Reserve in Inner Mongolia belongs to Pan-Arctic flora, Eurasian grassland flora subregion and East Mongolia subregion. However, because the area is adjacent to Daxing 'anling and northern Hebei, the flora is transitional, and the Mongolian grassland plants are the main ones, such as Stipa baikal, Stipa grandis, Pterocarya sibirica, Spiraea lineata and Leymus chinensis. There are also Corylus heterophylla, Acer truncatum and Anemarrhena asphodeloides mixed with the flora of North China. The flora of Xing 'an includes Larix gmelinii, Sabina vulgaris, Spiraea, Pyrola and so on. Picea mongolica is a unique tree species in China and the flag tree species of grassland. The Picea mongolica forest composed of it is rare in the world, and it is called "Picea mongolica biological gene bank" by academic circles, which has great scientific research value for studying plant changes. It is called "sacred tree in the sand" and "emerald on the grassland" by local herders. Plant species are rich and diverse. According to the incomplete statistics of 20 13, there are more than 460 species of higher plants belonging to 68 families and 239 genera, among which monotypic families and oligodendrofamilies account for 87.8% of the total families, and vascular plants account for 4 18 species. The unique geographical location and eco-geographical environment of Baiyin Aobao National Nature Reserve in Inner Mongolia have formed a unique natural landscape and human landscape of sand, water and forest.
Forest grassland landscape
The nature reserve is located in the combination zone of forest and grass, and the spruce forest in sandy land is distributed in patches in the grassland, which constitutes a unique forest and grass landscape in China. Picea mongolica looks like a tower. Its trunk is stiff and tall with branches.
Sandy landscape
The reserve is located at the edge of Hunshandake sandy land, and its landform consists of ridge fixed sand belt and semi-fixed mobile sand dunes. The height of sand belt is 6-10m, and the thickness of sand layer is10-100m. Riding a camel on the beach, accompanied by camel bells, we can experience the hardships of trekking in the desert, enjoy the excitement after going to the oasis, and raise people's awareness of caring for and protecting nature.
Water landscape
Gong Geer River is located on the north side of the reserve, and Aobao River meanders through the south edge of the reserve. The river is clear and endless, with green grass on both sides, like two silvery white ribbons, decorating the whole spruce community into a mosaic of forests, grasslands and rivers.
human landscape
Baiyin Aobao Mountain (translated as Woshan in Chinese) in the nature reserve is one of the five Aobao in Keshiketeng Banner, and it is a sacred place for Mongolian sacrifices on the grassland of Gong Geer. The ancestral forest, dating back to two thousand years ago, is actually a way to worship around the forest. Later, it gradually evolved into a sacrifice to Aobao. In the Yuan Dynasty, there were five royal seas in Hexigten Banner. Hainan, Japan and Korea are a high-grade Aobao and a sacred mountain. At that time, no matter the nobles, young and old, Zizazak would put on his costume in the early morning of May 13th of the lunar calendar, personally lead his men to the Shanghai beach, bow down before Aobao and hold an all-sheep banquet. Until today, the custom of Mongolian people offering sacrifices to the sea has continued to this day.
