Extended data
The administrative divisions of People's Republic of China (PRC) are divided into three levels: province, county and township. China's administrative regions are divided into provinces, counties and townships, and the following principles are specifically implemented:
(1) The whole country is divided into provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government;
(2) Provinces and autonomous regions are divided into autonomous prefectures, counties, autonomous counties and cities;
(3) Counties and autonomous counties are divided into townships, nationality townships and towns. Municipalities directly under the central government and larger cities are divided into districts and counties. Autonomous prefectures are divided into counties, autonomous counties and cities. Autonomous regions, autonomous prefectures and autonomous counties are all ethnic autonomous areas. The state may establish special administrative regions when necessary.
County is one of the administrative divisions of China. Counties, together with county-level cities, municipal districts, autonomous counties, banners, autonomous flags, mining areas, forest areas and special zones, are called "county-level administrative regions", which belong to the third-level local administrative regions and are the de facto administrative divisions of China, and are under the jurisdiction of the second-level administrative regions such as prefecture-level cities, regions, autonomous prefectures and leagues or the first-level administrative regions such as provinces and municipalities directly under the Central Government.
