Not long ago, I traveled to Shouxian County and stumbled upon a "very new" ancient building behind Sun Shrine in Sunchang Village, Shuangqiao Town. Curiosity drove me to visit the old house. The whole building looks very new, like a new building, but in details, many wooden structural members are old, with no traces of the old. According to the villagers, this house has been in Qianlong for 32 years and has a history of more than 250 years. It looks very new, because this ancient building was bought from Wuyuan, Jiangxi and rebuilt here.
Entering the interior, I saw that the hall was tall and spacious, with tall and straight columns and stone piers; The patio in the middle is paved with bluestone slabs, which are laid regularly. The lintel, partition wall, window lattice, caisson, beam Fang, sparrow replacement and bucket arch are beautifully carved, and the mansion and deep courtyard are engraved with historical traces. A two-story wooden structure that can be climbed up by stairs.
Because the whole building has just been built, there are not many indoor furnishings, except a few calligraphy and paintings of Sun Shi's descendants and two vases. However, there are a lot of wood carvings in the whole building. The wood carvings on the beams, arches, flower doors and window roots of the main hall are complex in level and have many figures. The craftsman used deep relief and round carving to make pavilions, trees, mountains and rivers, animals, flowers, birds, insects and fish gather in one place, with clear perspective and exquisiteness.
The most important form of traditional folk houses in China is the quadrangle with wooden structure, and Huizhou "four waters returning to the hall" folk house is one of the important types. The "hall" here refers to the front of the terrace, and the so-called "four waters return to the hall" means collecting rainwater from the roof of the house in the patio. Wuyuan was also a part of Huizhou in the early days. Through this construction industry, the charm of Huizhou folk houses has been shown to the world. Just how much does it cost to buy such a building, dismantle, transport and reinstall it?
Sun Shi family in Shouxian County, western Anhui Province, became a famous family because of its long history of farming and reading. Later generations took the lead and made great achievements. For hundreds of years, poetry and rites have been passed down from generation to generation, and talents have emerged in large numbers, including the Sun's Ancestral Hall built by the Qing emperor. Sun Shrine, the main entrance of the ancestral hall is three rooms, covered with blue tiles, decorated with ridged beasts, and the cornices glow. On both sides of the ancestral hall gate, half a person holds a big drum at a high threshold, highlighting the solemnity of the ancestral hall, and the golden characters of "Sun's Ancestral Hall" on the lintel shine brightly. Because the door was not opened, it was impossible to enter the interior for a visit.
When you arrive in Shouxian, you must take a walk on the ancient city wall. Above the city gate, it is a thousand years of vicissitudes. The gates and city walls we see now were first built in Xining period of Northern Song Dynasty (1068- 1077), and rebuilt by Xu Jun, the capital of Jiankang in Ningzong 12th year of Southern Song Dynasty (1206). It lasted 150 years and was repeated many times. The ancient city wall of Shouxian County is the only well-preserved wall of the Song Dynasty among the seven ancient city walls in China, with brick walls and stone foundations, with a circumference of 7 1.47 meters.
