Founded in 1977, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra is the only large-scale professional Chinese orchestra with 85 professional performers in Hong Kong. The orchestra's performances are divided into four categories: string-pulling, plucking, pipe-blowing and percussion, including traditional and newly reformed instruments. On 200 1 April1day, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra Limited officially took over the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra following the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.
