Pole can be made of wood or bamboo. Whether it is miscellaneous wood collected from deep forests or bamboo collected from valley streams, its shape is generally simple and natural: upright, unbranched and tendrils, just like a simple word "one". But there are also shoulder poles with upturned ends, which are shaped like "crescent moon".
It is said that picking things is more labor-saving, but it needs certain skill control, otherwise it will be easy to turn over when using. In order to prevent turning over, some upturned poles are equipped with short boards at one end, which are called "horses" of poles.
Another explanation of pole
The shoulder pole is a unique interactive folk musical instrument of Zhuang nationality, which originated from labor tools and daily life. It is often used to accompany Zhuang folk dances. Widely distributed all over the country, it is mainly used in primitive agriculture and rarely used in modern agriculture. Most of the shoulder poles are made of bamboo, with different lengths, generally about 160 cm long, with narrow ends and wide middle.
Pole dancing is popular in Du 'an and Mashan on the banks of Hongshui River in Guangxi and Baise and Bama in western Guangxi. During the Spring Festival, men, women and children of Zhuang people danced pole dancing happily. A pair of pole dancers, each holding a pole around a bench or wooden trough, sang and danced, hitting each other or hitting the bench with both ends of the pole, making a harmonious sound of giggling and clicking.
